The R4 Story From Trisha Rooney’s Perspective

You’re 23 years old and fresh out of college. What do you do? Take a year off to “figure things out?” Jump on the corporate bandwagon and get a job with a company in your field of expertise? Not if you’re Trisha Rooney.

An entrepreneur at heart, her goal was to turn a real estate investment into a company she could call her own. The real estate included a warehouse located just south of the Loop in Chicago. With the purchase of the building came what would become her first records center customer. A Chicago law firm was renting space in the warehouse to store their legal files and retrieving files on their own as needed. Trisha offered to retrieve files for the attorneys if they would call ahead and she would have them ready for pickup. It wasn’t long until she was delivering the files to the firm. A spark was ignited. Trisha began to ask her friends and family what they actually do with their records. After much research, determination and sheer hard work as a one-woman sales force, she persuaded other firms to give her a try. Soon, Trisha and R4 Services were in full swing. With its doors opening in 1993, R4 Services has grown from one young entrepreneur’s aspiration into a company of over 35 employees and almost 1.2 million boxes in three record centers with over 500 customers.

At R4, a family has been created. Trisha attracted young, hardworking employees to join her team and nurtured an environment of loyalty. These single, hardworking post-college employees are now the mid-thirties moms, dads, husbands and wives that are still calling on customers, taking orders and delivering boxes.

The R4 family extends beyond its employees and includes Trisha’s immediate family as well including her brother Sean, a Notre Dame graduate, who heads up R4’s Destruction Services in Chicago Division.
